Two-factor Authentication
Add another layer of security to your SurveyMonkey account by using two-factor authentication (2FA) when logging in.
2FA uses two types of authentication factors to identify who you are when logging into your account:
Authentication factor | What does this mean? | Examples |
1. Knowledge | Something you know | Your login info: email address and password |
2. Possession | Something you have | *A smartphone, or tablet |
* Any device that can download an authenticator app.
When 2FA is enabled, you need both your login information and a one-time passcode generated by an authenticator app on your mobile device to log in to your account.
If your SurveyMonkey account is linked to Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, Microsoft, or Apple and you use those credentials to log in or you're part of an Enterprise team with Single Sign-On (SSO) set up—You'll not be able to use 2FA.
To set up and use 2FA, you need to have an authenticator app downloaded on your mobile device.
Here are some common authenticator apps that can be found in your mobile device app store:
Getting set up with 2FA is a two-step process. First you turn 2FA on for your SurveyMonkey account, and then you register the mobile device you'll use to verify your identity.
To complete setting up 2FA you need an authenticator app on your mobile device.
Once your account has 2FA turned on, you can now connect your mobile device.
Your mobile device is now saved for 2FA, and will be used to confirm your identity using the authenticator app when you next log in.

TIP! Codes may have a countdown to expiry which will invalidate the code. Check to make sure you enter the most current code.
You can choose to remember this device for 30 days when logging in. So when you next log in with the same device or browser, it will remember this device and you won't be asked for a code for the next 30 days.
You may need to switch which mobile device you use for 2FA. For example, if you get a new phone or tablet. Read more about troubleshooting 2FA.
Make sure you have the authenticator app on your new mobile device.
To change your 2FA device:
Your new mobile device is now saved for 2FA, and will be used to confirm your identity using the authenticator app when you next log in.
If you don't remove the SurveyMonkey account from the Authenticator app on your previously used device, it will continue to generate a code. This code will be invalid and can no longer be used to login.
TIP! Keep your most commonly used mobile device as your 2FA authenticator as you can only save one device with 2FA.
If you turn off 2FA, you won't need an authenticator app to confirm your identity at login.
To turn off two-factor authentication:
Two-factor authentication is now turned off for your account. If you want to use 2FA again, toggle it back on.
You may need to check with your chosen authenticator app for any other troubleshooting issues.
To set up your device with 2FA, you first need to open the authenticator app on your mobile device to scan the QR code. This may look different on each authenticator app–reach out to their guide or Help Center for further instructions.
If you're unable to scan the QR code with the authenticator app then:

Your mobile device is now saved for 2FA, and will be used to confirm your identity using the authenticator app when you next log in.
If you no longer have access to your mobile device, you can change the device you use for two-factor authentication once you're logged in.
You can also turn off 2FA to remove the need to use an authenticator app to login.
If you have a new mobile device and don't have access to your old one, you can change the device you use for 2FA once you're logged in.
If you've deleted your authenticator app, you'll first need to login and then turn 2FA off for your account.
Turning off 2FA will remove the need to use an authenticator app to login. To set up 2FA again, you'll need to redownload the authenticator app.
If you have a new authenticator app that you want to use for 2FA and don't have access to the previous one, you'll first need to login and then turn 2FA off for your account.
Next you can turn 2FA on again, to get set up with the new authenticator app on your preferred mobile device.
You're only able to have use one mobile device with your authenticator app for 2FA. We recommend choosing your most often used mobile device, so you have it with you when you're logging in to your account.
You can also remember this device for 30 days. When you next log in with the same device or browser, it will remember this device and you won't be asked for a code for the next 30 days.
